Frank E. Kohut

Frank E. Kohut, age 81, passed away peacefully, with his loving family by his side, on February 2, 2024, at Yale New Haven Hospital St. Raphael’s Campus, after a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of fifty-nine years to Maryann Killian Kohut.

Frank was born in Dickson City, PA on December 23, 1942, son of the late Frank and Mary Fritch Kohut. He attended local schools and graduated from what is now Johnson Technical College in Scranton, PA. A proud veteran, Frank honorably served his country in the United States Navy in the Naval Seabees stationed in Cuba during the missile crisis. After being discharged, Frank moved to CT with his hometown sweetheart, Maryann, to raise his family. He was employed as a machinist and later operations manager for Sikorsky Aircraft in Stratford for thirty-eight years, until his retirement. During his employment there, he rose through the ranks of management while simultaneously attaining his bachelor’s degree from the University of New Haven. Frank was a member of the Boy Scouts of America, where he earned the rank Eagle Scout. He was a devout communicant of St. Joseph Church in Ansonia and a member of Emil Senger American Legion Post 10 in Seymour. Frank enjoyed playing golf at Newtown Country Club and was a talented chef. He enjoyed traveling especially to Europe and the big island of Hawaii.

Frank was a true friend and the best husband, father and grandfather who was always available to provide support and guidance whenever needed. He was devoted to his wife and family and especially his grandchildren who were the love of his life. Frank’s passing leaves a void that cannot be filled but his legacy of love, strength and kindness will continue to guide all who were fortunate to know him.

In addition to his wife Maryann, Frank leaves to cherish his memory, a son, Gregory F. Kohut (Gerianne) of Ansonia, a daughter, Caroline Furtak (Jerry) of Princeton, NJ, brothers, Jerry Kohut (Rosemarie) of Old Forge, PA and David Kohut (Robin) of Lake Ariel, PA, sister, Mary Lou Tomko (Jack) of Dickson City, PA, grandchildren, Luke and Joseph Kohut of Ansonia, Drew Furtak of Ewing, NJ and Sara Furtak of Princeton, NJ, special brother-in-law, Jim Killian of Throop PA, along with several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family and pay their respects on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, from 4:00 – 7:00 pm in the chapel of SPINELLI-RICCIUTI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. On Thursday morning, his funeral will begin at 9:15 from the funeral home then proceed to St. Joseph Church in Ansonia for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am.
