Gaetano “Guy” T. Mantini

Gaetano Guy” T. Mantini, age 93, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2024, at Griffin Hospital in Derby, surrounded by his loving family, after a hard-fought battle with a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of sixty-three years to Marie Piscioneri Mantini. 

Guy was born in Ansonia on June 16, 1930, son of the late Emilio and Carolina Lisi Mantini. After retiring from A. DiTullio & Sons in Milford, he worked part-time handy-man type jobs. He was a classic jack of all trades” particularly skilled in masonry, carpentry and building furniture. Guy enjoyed listening to music, playing the saxophone, and dancing. He played the tenor saxophone as part of the Southern Comfort Band during the 1987 Southern Summer Pops Series at SCSU

At weddings, he and his wife Marie would hit the dance floor to swing dance when Glenn Miller’s In the Mood” was played. Guy enjoyed UCONN women’s basketball, tending to his yard, vacationing at Lake George, and setting up his Christmas Village. Most of all he liked to spend time with his loving family. They are proud of the resilience and strength he showed throughout his long, full life and they are grateful to have had him with them for so many years. 

In addition to his devoted wife Marie, he is survived by his daughter, AnnMarie Forcier (Mark) of Shelton, his son, Thomas Mantini (Lisa) of Hamden, grandson, Matthew Mantini of New Port Richey, FL, granddaughters, Jessica Marsha (Frett) of Derby and Mirissa Mantini of Hamden and great granddaughter, Juliana Marsha, along with several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, James M. Mantini, infant great granddaughter, Piper Mantini, brothers, Anthony and Frank Mantini, sister, Mary Mantini and nephew, Anthony Mantini. The family appreciates the care the Griffin Hospital ICU staff provided to Guy in his final days. 

Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family and pay their respects on Thursday, April 11, 2024, from 4:00 – 7:00 pm in the chapel of SPINELLI-RICCIUTI FUNERAL HOME, 62, Beaver Street in Ansonia. On Friday morning, his funeral will begin at 9:15 am from the funeral home then proceed to St. Mary’s Church (Our Lady Queen of the Apostles Parish) in Derby, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am.
