George C. Spooner

In loving memory, it is with great sorrow George C. Spooner, age 90 of Shelton passed away peacefully at his home with his loving family by his side.

He was the devoted husband of 71 years to Geraldine Gerry” (Koplowski) Spooner. George was born in New Milford, on September 17, 1933, son of the late Joseph and Lillian (Northrop) Spooner.

He graduated from Bullard Havens in 1952 as an auto mechanic. He was an antique car and hot rod enthusiast. George was an auto mechanic at Page Motors in Milford before working for Brennan Construction Company as a heavy equipment operator. He operated every machine with the precision of a surgeon. It was said that he could pick a dime off of a quarter. Later, he joined the Operating Engineer Local 478 in New Haven as a crane operator. During his career he dismantled the church in Shelton he was baptized in.

George built his family home from the foundation up including plumbing, electrical, roofing and siding. He was a jack of all trades. When he would help people every project would come out perfectly. He was a perfectionist with anything he did.

George enjoyed golfing and boating and was a member of the Miamogue Yacht Club and the Pequonnock Yacht Club. When he retired George and his wife moved to Florida where they enjoyed their retired life for 26 years.

George was the beloved father of G. Kevin Spooner and Colleen Spooner and her husband Ralph DeSanti, Jr and brother of Ruth Spooner. He was the loving grandfather of Gabriel and Grace DeSanti and Matthew Janus, great grandfather of Alexander and Catherine and was also survived by numerous loving nieces and nephews.

George was predeceased by his son Michael Spooner and three brothers Joseph, Fred and Leon Spooner.

On Wednesday, April 17, 2024, friends may call from 3 to 5 PM at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Rd., Shelton. His funeral service will follow at 5 PM at the parlor.
