John McGinn

John R. McGinn, age 70, entered eternal rest on April 22, 2024, at Griffin Hospital in Derby, surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted and beloved husband of forty-nine years to Lucille A. LoCascio McGinn.

John was born in Lynn, Massachusetts on June 10, 1953, son of the late Francis J. and Helen McQuade McGinn. Our Bubba” was a gentle giant” with a presence that lit up every room he entered. He was kind, loved being with people, and making everyone laugh. A resident of Seymour for forty-nine years, John was employed as a Finance Manager and Sales Associate at the former Healey Ford in Ansonia, until his retirement. He later worked the door at BJ’s Wholesale Club in Derby where the patrons loved to see his smiling face. He was a devout communicant of Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia where he served as an usher and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Catholic Men’s Club, bocce league, and a former trustee. Each week at Bungay School in Seymour, John would volunteer for the Senior Mentor Program and in his Sunshine’s” kindergarten classroom. He adored the children and the feeling was reciprocated.

John enjoyed golfing, reading, swimming daily at the YMCA in Ansonia, his Thursday night pasta dinners, playing cribbage with his Uncle Gene and making trips to his favorite place, Ogunquit, Maine. He was an avid fan of UCONN men’s and women’s basketball, the Miami Dolphins, and of course the Boston Red Sox who he loved supporting by attending games at Fenway Park with his daughter whom he adored. He was also a devoted dog dad to his canine sons,” past and present, Roscoe, Fenway, and Manny. John’s greatest passion in life, for over 50 years, was representing Santa Claus every year during Christmas time. Nothing meant more to him then to see the joy on children’s faces and to hear their stories. John will be deeply missed but will always be in our hearts.

In addition to his wife Lucille, John leaves to cherish his memory, his loving daughter, Colleen M. McGinn of Stratford, his three brothers with whom he shared a special bond, Francis J. McGinn Jr. (Pauline) of New Hampshire, James R. McGinn (Karen) of Virginia and Stephen J. McGinn (Lynn) of Arizona; his sister-in-law, Michele Garry (Robert) of Ansonia; nieces and nephews, Kevin, Brian, Melissa, Greg, Christopher, Laura, Jason, and Seth; and his honorary daughters Dorie Neary and Tara Croy, and their families Bill, Ryan, Shay, and Jonathan.

Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family and pay their respects on Thursday, April 25, 2024, from 4:00 – 7:00 pm in the chapel of SPINELLI-RICCIUTI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. On Friday morning, all are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial by meeting directly at Holy Rosary Church, 10 Father Salemi Drive in Ansonia, at 10:00 am.
