Nancy R. Russo, age 98, a lifelong resident of Ansonia, entered eternal rest on February 13, 2024, at Complete Care at Glendale in Naugatuck.
Nancy was born at home in Ansonia on September 2, 1925, daughter of the late Louis and Immaculata Sapiente Russo. She was employed at the H.C. Cook Co. and later Teledyne, both in Ansonia, until her retirement. Nancy, known affectionately as CeCe by many of her great nieces and nephews, was a dedicated member of Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia for many years. She possessed a unique talent for storytelling, often finding herself in amusing, yet delightful loops. As a child, Nancy cherished weekly trips to the movies until prices rose from a dime to eleven cents. She was a passionate supporter of UCONN Women’s basketball and found joy in reading, playing Solitaire, solving word search puzzles, eating Milky Ways, and reading the Holy Rosary Bulletin over and over again. Her warm presence and love for life will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Nancy was a loving second mother to Daniel Shpak of Oxford, a “grandmother figure” to numerous great-nieces and great-nephews and a special Godmother to many. She was predeceased by a brother, Anthony Russo and sisters, Rose Hennessey, Josephine Fitzpatrick, Carol Criscuolo and Antoinette Shpak.
Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family and pay their respects on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, from 9:00 am to 10:30 am in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. Her funeral will then proceed to Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia for her Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in Mount Saint Peter Cemetery in Derby. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Nancy’s memory may be made to Julia Day Nursery School, 76 Central Street, Ansonia, CT 06401. When Nancy’s mother died at a very early age leaving her father with six young children, Julia Day Nursery School assisted immensely in helping the family.
