Peter V. Aquila Sr.

Peter V. Aquila Sr., age 99, entered eternal rest on February 12, 2024, at his home in Shelton, with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of the late Agnes Ferla Aquila.

Peter was born at home in Ansonia on October 12, 1924, son of the late Joseph and Anna Sorce Aquila. He began his career employed at the former Derby Coal and Oil and retired from working as a salesman at Petro Home Services in 1991, after thirty years. 

A proud veteran, Peter honorably served his country in the United States Army Medical Corp. during WW2

Peter was a devout communicant of Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia where he was a member of their Catholic Men’s Club and Knights of Columbus. Over the years, Peter was a member of the St. Sebastian Club, the former St. Michael’s Men’s Society, and the VFW Post 597, all in Ansonia. He was also the past president of the former Ansonia Lions Club. 

Peter’s hobbies included, making his own wine, bowling, playing horse shoes, listening to music, and attending drum corp. shows. He also loved a good” poker game and playing pinochle, and set-back with his family. Peter enjoyed traveling to Florida, Arkansas, and Italy, especially Sicily. He was a supporter of Ansonia High School Football and an avid fan of the NY Yankees, the NY Giants, and UCONN basketball. 

Peter leaves to cherish his memory, sons, Peter V. Aquila Jr. (Donna) of Seymour, Joseph J. Aquila of Naugatuck, daughter, Anne Aquila of Shelton, sister, Mary Ann Groves (Tom) of Seymour, grandchildren, Leanne McKenna (Michael), Marissa Blundell (Shane), Christopher Aquila (Anna), Nicholas Aquila, Amanda Aquila, Anthony Parrish (Nia) and Christine Aquila (Mark Hirschbeck), great-grandchildren, Jude Aquila, Peter V. Aquila III, Jada Aquila, Connor, Landon, Hannah McKenna and Maddy and Eli Blundell, great-great grandchildren, Isaiah Parrish and Navy Little, along with several nieces and nephews. 

He was predeceased by his grandson, Peter J. Aquila and his brother, Salvatore Aquila. The family sends a heart-felt thank you to Peter’s caregivers, Sharon (his niece and Godchild), Mitchelee, Marietta, Emely, and Savy.

Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family and pay their respects on Friday, February 16, 2024, from 4:00 – 7:00 pm in the chapel of SPINELLI-RICCIUTI FUNERAL HOME,62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. On Saturday morning, his funeral will take place at 10:00 am (please meet directly) at Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia, for his Mass of Christian Burial. Entombment with United States Army military honors will follow in Mt. St. Peter Mausoleum in Derby.
