Derby’s Mayor To Seek Third Term

FILE PHOTODerby Mayor Anita Dugatto’s campaign issued a prepared statement Tuesday confirming she will seek a third term as Derby mayor.

The mayor filed paperwork in the town clerk’s office Jan. 31 declaring her intent to run again.

She faces a challenge for the nomination from fellow Democrat Carmen DiCenso, who is scheduled to formally announce his intent to enter the race at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Italian Pavilion on Pershing Drive.

Richard Dziekan, who lost a close contest to Dugatto in 2015, told the Valley Indy earlier this month he will again seek the Republican nomination for mayor.

Dugatto was first elected in 2013.

I am happy with the progress my administration is making. The well-being of those who live in, visit, and do business in our city is my top priority,” she said in a prepared statement. Running the city effectively and efficiently is important to that end. I am grateful to the residents of Derby for allowing me to do so.”

In the statement, the mayor says she’s made city government more open to the people.

She cites the creation of a municipal website, citizen request portal, weekly open door sessions with the mayor, and a Facebook page dedicated to community news as evidence of her commitment.

In the release, the mayor also talks about updating city computer software and hardware in an effort to make Derby City Hall work better for citizens.

She notes progress the city has made regarding infrastructure, and the new effort to attract sustainable development to the city’s downtown redevelopment zone.

The investments we make in Derby today will pay off long-term,” she said in the statement. They make our city more attractive to potential investors, homeowners and businesses and make our fiscal position more stable.”
