No Injuries In Shelton Apartment Fire

A fire inside a fourth-floor unit at the Avalon Shelton apartment complex on Canal Street was knocked down quickly Tuesday night.

There were no injuries.

Firefighters were called to respond to a fire alarm at the complex about 11:30 p.m.

Shelton Fire Department Assistant Chief Joseph Constantino said that the first firefighters to arrive found fire inside the bathroom of a fourth-floor apartment.

Firefighters from all four of the city’s fire companies were called to the scene, as well as a ladder truck from Derby, per the fire department’s protocol.

The fire was knocked down probably within 10 minutes after they actually located it,” Constantino said at the scene about midnight as firefighters finished venting the smoke from the fire out of the building.

Crews also checked to see whether the fire extended to the third floor, Constantino said, but it did not.

It’s unclear whether the apartment was occupied at the time of the blaze. Constantino said police and the fire marshal were investigating its cause and origin.

The complex was evacuated when the fire alarm went off but residents were back inside by about midnight. Fire crews were clearing the scene about 15 minutes later.
