Ah, a winter storm watch is in effect today, the National Weather Service reports.
They’re calling for a potential winter storm this weekend. And their alert is in all-caps:
LOW PRESSURE OVER THE NORTHERN GULF COAST WILL TRACK TO NEAR CAPE HATTERAS SATURDAY MORNING…THEN DEEPEN AS IT TRACKS TO THE NORTHEAST OVER THE ATLANTIC SATURDAY NIGHT. THE INTENSE LOW WILL PRODUCE A SWATH OF HEAVY SNOWFALL…AS WELL AS A CORRIDOR OF HIGH WINDS.
AT THIS TIME…THE EXACT TRACK OF THE SYSTEM IS STILL UNCERTAIN. A DIFFERENCE OF ONLY 100 MILES WILL HAVE A SIGNIFICANT IMPACT ON THE WEATHER ACROSS THE REGION.
Five to 10 inches of snow is possible, with wind speeds up to 35 mph.
Here’s the extended forecast from the National Weather Service:
Today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 29. North wind around 7 mph.
Tonight: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 15. North wind between 6 and 8 mph.
Saturday: A chance of snow, mainly after 11am. Cloudy, with a high near 32. Northeast wind between 10 and 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.
Saturday: Night: Snow likely, mainly between 8pm and 4am. Cloudy, with a low around 21. Windy, with a north wind between 20 and 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
Sunday: A chance of snow showers, mainly before 4pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 29. Blustery, with a north wind between 21 and 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%.
Sunday Night: Partly cloudy and blustery, with a low around 20.
