Ansonia Man Accused Of Stabbing Neighbor Sues Police

ANSONIAA man accused of stabbing a woman in a laundry room dispute has sued the Ansonia Police Department for allegedly searching his residence illegally.

William Petaway was arrested on Feb. 7 after a woman called the police and told police Petaway had punched her in the face and stabbed her arm.

The two are neighbors in an apartment building on Main Street, according to police.

Aquarion Offers $56 Million For Ansonia’s WPCA, Public Hearing Scheduled

ANSONIAA public hearing is scheduled for 6 p.m. April 30 at the Ansonia Senior Center (65 Main St., 2nd floor) on Aquarion’s $56 million offer to purchase the city’s wastewater collection and treatment system.

Aquarion placed the bid on April 3. It includes a $41 million cash payment to the city, as well as a promise to invest $15 million in capital improvements in their first five years of ownership.

The bid also includes a 10-year property tax exemption for Aquarion, as well as the establishment of a rate stabilization fund’ using $7 million of current Water Pollution Control Authority (WPCA) assets. 

Aquarion says the fund will help soften rate hikes.

Ansonia Man Accused Of Sending Inappropriate Messages To Minor

ANSONIA – State police arrested a 27-year-old Ansonia man for allegedlysending inappropriate Instagram messages to a child.

According to an arrest warrant posted on the Connecticut State Police website, Michael Bernaud met the victim, a 13-year-old boy, at a restaurant in Orange. 

Beginning in December of last year, he allegedly began sending vulgar messages to the victim and requesting lewd pictures and videos in exchange for money.

Report: Suspected Shoplifter Triggers Violent Struggle With Ansonia Police

ANSONIAA 37-year-old Waterbury man faces eight criminal charges after he allegedly fought with police on West Main Street. Two officers were injured in the prolonged struggle.

The suspect, Andrew Breda, is due back in court on May 9. He is charged with two counts of assaulting a public safety officer, resisting arrest, sixth-degree larceny, possession of a controlled substance (first offense), use of drug paraphernalia, criminal impersonation, and second-degree breach of peace.

The assault charges are felonies, the rest are misdemeanors.

Annual Town Meeting In Seymour Scheduled For Tonight (April 17)

SEYMOUR — The town and school budgets are scheduled to take a step closer toward a public vote after Seymour holds its annual town meeting tonight (Wednesday, April 17) at the community center.

The Seymour Charter says the meeting is hosted by the Seymour Board of Selectpersons. The board could recommend changes to the budget, but only if at least 50 registered voters attend the meeting.

The annual town meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the bingo room at the community center, 20 Pine St.

The town meeting usually ends with the board officially putting the budget to referendum.

That referendum – during which people will vote on the town and school budgets separately – is scheduled for 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. May 2 at the Seymour Community Center.

First Selectwoman Annmarie Drugonis sent out a robocall Tuesday night letting residents know about the town meeting.

That was the shocking refrain of Ansonia Mayor David Cassetti when asked about Seymour First Selectwoman Annmarie Drugonis’s odds at this weekend’s 16th Annual Men Who Cook” fundraiser, scheduled from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. April 20 at Warsaw Park, 119 Pulaski Highway.

Men Who Cook” features professional and amateur chefs cooking their favorite meals.

Yes, last year’s Men Who Cook” drew 400 people and raised more than $82,000 for TEAM Inc., the Valley’s nonprofit social services agency. And yes, this year’s tickets are almost sold out, but you can try to purchase some here.
