Plumb Memorial Library To Host Genealogy Workshop Jan. 18

The Plumb Memorial Library at 65 Wooster Street in Shelton will be offering a second part to their recent genealogy workshop on Saturday, January 18th at 1:30 pm in the Plumb Library Meeting Room.

The focus of this seminar will be entitled: Researching Our Roots-Digging Deeper. Genealogical research is both rewarding and challenging. Have you hit a roadblock in your ancestral research? Are you not sure how to find more generations of your family? Join instructor Sarah Miller as she shares tips and tools to help you dig deeper into your family’s past.

Author Symposium at Plumb Memorial Library Jan. 11

The Plumb Memorial Library at 65 Wooster Street in Shelton will be having a local author symposium on Saturday, January 11thth at 1:00pm.

The authors will be discussing the process of getting an idea for a book, putting pen to paper to make it come to life, and then the steps they take to get the books published and in the hands of readers.

Griffin Health Offers Free Tobacco Cessation Programs

DERBY Griffin Health offers education, advice and support to help individuals prepare to quit smoking with an upcoming session of its free tobacco and nicotine cessation program.

That’s It – Learn to Quit” teaches a variety of methods to help individuals quit smoking over the course of six weekly meetings. There will be sessions at The Center for Cancer Care at Griffin Hospital, 350 Seymour Ave., Derby, on Mondays Jan. 13, 20, and 27, and Feb. 3, 10 and 17 from 5:30 – 7 p.m., and on Mondays Jan. 20 and 27, and Feb. 3, 10, 17 and 24 from 2 – 3:30 p.m.

Victory Parade Dec. 21 To Honor Ansonia Charger State Champs

ANSONIAA victory parade to celebrate the Ansonia Chargers’ state championship will be held on Saturday, Dec. 21, at 1 p.m. on Main Street.

The Ansonia Chargers beat the Bloomfield Warhawks in a 58 – 12 victory on Dec. 14 to claim their 22nd Class S CIAC state title. 

The parade will leave from the police department parking lot (65 Main St.) and process down the street toward city hall. Parking is available on Upper Main Street.

On 12/9/24 at 10:58 am the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Huntington Co. #3 responded to a motor vehicle accident on route 8 south bound at exit 9.

On 12/9/24 at 12:23 pm the Pine Rock Co. #4 and the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to an electrical hazard inside #31 Waterford Drive.

On 12/9/24 at 4:24 pm the White Hills Co. #5 responded to a carbon monoxide alarm activated at #38 Birdseye Road.

Route 8 Construction Update For Weeks Of Dec. 16, 23 & 30, 2024

For the week of Dec. 16, nighttime work will continue from 6PM to 6AM:

  • Nighttime operations will typically occur Sunday night through Thursday night.
  • Saw-cutting and concrete pavement repair activities will continue, northbound from Exit 15 to 22 (New Exits 12B to 18).
  • Both northbound and southbound traffic lanes have moved to the right shoulder to create a work area for median barrier replacement between Exit 20 and 22 (New Exits 17 – 18).
  • Median barrier and median drainage are being replaced.
  • There is no upcoming daytime work.
