Here is what was happening locally this week in 1965.
DERBY – A Derby man accused of sneaking into his neighbor’s house and attacking a teenager with a hammer had his case transferred Dec. 19 to Superior Court in Milford, where more serious crimes are heard.
Andrew Fogarty is accused of home invasion and second-degree assault in connection to an incident in the early hours of Dec. 6. Both charges are felonies.
His case has twice appeared on the docket in Superior Court in Derby, the city where the crime took place.
SEYMOUR – The Seymour Board of Education on Dec. 9 celebrated the achievements of students and staff members during its final meeting of the year.

The following students were nominated by one of their teachers and recognized as Seymour Champions for academic, social and community awareness.

First grader Mackenzie Bullard was feted for starting up the Seymour Food 2 Kids program which provides snacks and food to struggling families in the community.
Third grader Kiley Sawicki was recognized for going out of her way to ensure others are included and for her awareness of how her fellow students are feeling.
State Rep. Kara Rochelle (D – Ansonia, Derby) will hold her monthly in-person Community Coffee Event on Friday, December 20, 2024, from 8 am — 9 am in the private room of the Valley Diner, 636 New Haven Ave, Derby.
Residents from Derby and Ansonia are welcome to attend this event. They are encouraged to come share their thoughts, ask questions, and provide feedback on state policy issues.

“Twins,” the Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito comedy, ruled the box office, taking in $7.7 million.
“Rain Man” was in its first weekend of release this week in 1988. It pulled in $7 million and went on to win Academy Awards for best picture, best director, best original screenplay, and best actor (Dustin Hoffman).
In national news, U.S. President-elect George H.W. Bush nominated former U.S. Sen. John Tower to be his secretary of defense. However, the U.S. Senate rejected the nomination.
ANSONIA – Rubin Little, who brought 30 years of financial advisor experience with him when he joined the faculty of Ansonia Public Schools, passed away overnight. He was 59 years old.
Little had taught business and financial literacy at Ansonia Middle School since 2019. Before that, he worked as a financial advisor with American Express for decades.
Ansonia Public Schools announced Mr. Little’s passing in a message sent out on the morning of Dec. 17.
