CT Roller Girls Are Coming To Derby

Assuming they get the necessary insurance paperwork, the CT Roller Girls will be holding a 5K race along the Derby Greenway June 10.
A rain date is scheduled for June 17.
Members of the Derby Board of Aldermen granted approval for the 5K race at their Jan. 26 meeting.

Oxford Cheerleaders Win Conference Championship

The Oxford High School Cheerleading Team won their first Southwestern Conference Cheer Championship in school history on Saturday, January 28, 2012.
The team finished in first place with a total score of 157 points. Following the competition, cheerleaders conducted a community service project by collecting donations for a local cancer research organization.

Montrell Dobbs To Play For Temple

Ansonia High School grad Montrell Dobbs will be playing football for the Temple Owls in the upcoming season.
Dobbs almost played for UConn, but an academic issue prevented him from doing so. He ran for 3,445 yards during his senior year in Ansonia. He attended the Milford Academy after graduating Ansonia.

Shelton Pop Warner Football & Cheerleading has elected its 2012 executive board.
Tim Monteleone returns for a second term as League President. Jody Bednarz has also been re-elected Secretary of the League. New officers for 2012 include Matt Civale – Vice President, Mike Boyce – Vice President, and Brian Pagluiso – Treasurer.

Register Names Ansonia’s Newsome Player Of The Year

The New Haven Register Saturday named Ansonia High School record-breaking running back Arkeel Newsome as its player of the year.
Newsome rushed for 3,763 yards and 58 touchdowns this season, leading the Ansonia Chargers to a state championship.
And he’s only a sophomore.

Valley YMCA Sprinters Set New Team Record

On Saturday, December 10, the Valley YMCA Sprinters boys 9-10 age group relay team of Daniel Matyszczyk, Jack Crocamo, Victor Falkowski and Tommy Minar set a new team record (boys age group 9-10, 200 Medley Relay) with a time of 2:33.43 while competing against the Meriden YMCA Seals.
