Police Tuesday were still investigating a crash on Route 34 Saturday that left a Guilford man in critical condition at Bridgeport Hospital.
Seymour Lt. Paul Satkowski said the crash around 6:42 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 5), involved two motorcycles and a car. He said a motorcycle driven by James Dagostino, 25, of Guilford, was driving eastbound on Route 34 – also known as Roosevelt Drive — when he apparently crossed the center line and collided with a car driven by Steve Vlahos, 77, of Brookfield.
Police said Vlahos was driving westbound and that Dagostino may have lost control of his bike on a curve near Argonne Terrace — but that police are still investigating.
He said Dagostino crashed his bike and was thrown. He was not wearing a helmet, Satkowski said. Satkowski said Dagostino sustained severe head and leg injuries.
Dagostino was taken to Bridgeport Hospital where he was listed in critical condition late Tuesday afternoon, according to spokesperson John Cappiello.
Satkowski said a second motorcyclist, Vincent Sharretto, 58, also of Guilford, was behind Dagostino and when he tried to avoid the accident, he also lost control of his bike. He was also taken to Bridgeport Hospital where he was treated and released, Cappiello said.
Police said Vlahos was shaken, but did not require any medical treatment.
No charges have been filed and police said they did not know if alcohol was a factor in the crash.
Satkowski said the area of the accident on Route 34, “has a slight bend in the road.’’
Satkowski said the department’s accident reconstruction officers are assisting with the investigation.

Argonne/Roosevelt is right where I live. That area is notorious for accidents – I cleaned up a fatal when I was on the FD – because cyclists don’t appreciate the subtle curve just before Argonne; they get through Pink House Cove by Cullins Hill and think it’s OK to open it up until they get to the dam.
Maybe this’ll be a lesson for everyone else.
D’agastino is a friend of mine, I’ve rode with him many times and I know he is not an aggressive driver. And for you to say cyclist need to learn a lesson I can promise you senior citizens, most of them need there drivers license revoked. Naturally the police are going to take the old mans side against the young biker so don’t blame the biker and have some respect. Senior citizens should have a physical and drivers test once they hit 65 and every 6 months after that since they are so willing to get around, but honestly you know and i know Most of them should be kept off the road. So keep in mind and don’t always blame the biker because segregation is in old folks nature and in this case it’s not color it’s what we look like. Keep that in mind. I promise you D’agastino was Not at fault. -WAYNE best friend 25…young whipper snapper-
A young beautiful life should not be used as a lesson. You don’t know what happened that evening and I am sure that many cars have driven out of control, please have some respect for the family and friends of Jimmy. He is an amazing person and doesnt deserve this. Nor does anyone. Pray for him.
Like you said that corner is notorious for accidents I am sure that not all of them were bike accidents so please dont be rude and just pray for his recovery.
My brother was also involved in a motorcycle accident about a year or so ago and he had respect for the road. But a car pulled out in front of him. Maybe the cars should be the ones to learn a lesson and have respect for bikers.
We are praying for you Jimmy we love you and you are in all of our thoughts and prayers.
