Virginia (Ginny) Ruth Rosenbaum, age 82, passed away June 19, 2025, in her home in Brooklyn, NY, secondary to Alzheimer’s disease. She was born October 5, 1942, in Ansonia, CT, to Ruth (Barrett) Boyles (1924-2005) and Demetro Warcholik, Jr., (1915-2007).
Virginia is survived by her husband of 50 years, James Rosenbaum, daughter, Janet Rosenbaum, son-in-law, Jonathan Joshua, and two grandchildren, Max and Ezra Joshenbaum, all of Brooklyn, NY. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Pastor William and Nathel Warcholik of Ooltewah, TN; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Larry Rosenbaum of Oakland, CA, Robert and Kay Rosenbaum of West Lafayette, IN, and William Rosenbaum and Mimi Brittingham, of Indianapolis, IN, and 7 nieces and nephews.
Virginia was the 12th generation of her family living in New Haven County — many generations in the Valley itself — but the first to attend college, earning bachelors and masters degrees from Southern Connecticut State University and Wheelock College of Boston University, respectively. She taught preschool at an early Head Start; dressed up in hand-sewn and knitted costumes and jewelry for Star Trek conventions and Renaissance Faires; led a Girl Scout troop; tutored reading; and, for more than a decade in the early 2000s, disseminated influenza pandemic preparedness information to the community, government, and business. Throughout her life, she read hundreds of books per year and was close with her parents.
Donations may be made in Virginia’s memory to your local public library. The service will be Sunday, June 22 at 9 am at the Plaza Community Chapel 630 Amsterdam Ave, New York, NY 10024 with burial at approximately 11:15 am at the Beth Israel Cemetery of Congregation Or Shalom, 18 Ladas Place, Shelton, CT.
