ANSONIA – A former Ansonia High School teacher accused of sexually assaulting a teen is due to appear in court again on Sept. 9.

Vincent Wynne, 41, of Torrington, appeared briefly in court Aug. 5. He was arrested by Torrington police in June and charged with second-degree sexual assault where the victim is under 16, as well as illicit sexual conduct with a minor under 16.

Wynne is accused of exchanging sexual messages with a 15-year-old in the Torrington area, then meeting the teen in a parking lot in Torrington to engage in a sex act. He allegedly told police he believed the teen was 17 years old, which is still a minor, according to his arrest warrant.

Wynne previously worked in school districts in Ansonia, Shelton, and Bridgeport, according to personnel files reviewed by The Valley Indy.

Ioannis Kaloidis, the attorney representing Wynne, accompanied his client in court. Kaloidis previously said in a statement that Wynne was the victim of extortion attempts and that he has been cooperating with police.

According to personnel files from Shelton and Ansonia school districts, Wynne began teaching at Shelton High School in 2007, where he also held the positions of assistant girls’ track coach and junior class advisor. He resigned from Shelton in March 2011, citing personal reasons. He then worked in Bridgeport at Bassick High School and Columbus Elementary School until 2013.

Wynne worked at Ansonia High School from 2013 until April 2025. He was head of the science department and taught classes in biology and environmental science. He was also co-advisor for the high school classes of 2017, 2019, 2021, and 2023.

School officials in Ansonia put Wynne on leave March 20. He resigned on April 11.

Ansonia police said they began investigating Wynne after receiving a report Wynne may have been in possession of inappropriate photos and videos of students.

Ansonia police turned the investigation over to Torrington police after suspecting a crime happened in that community.

The Valley Indy sent a public records request to Bridgeport Public Schools June 19.

Wynne’s case is being heard at Superior Court in Torrington.
