DERBY — Last weekend’s rescue in Osbornedale State Park was the second such incident this month, according to Chief Thomas Lenart Sr. of the Storm Engine Co. Ambulance and Rescue Corps.

However, crews also ventured deep into the 350-acre park on Monday, Aug. 4 to help a person who was having seizures.
During that rescue, first responders were attacked by yellow jackets defending an underground nest. Several crew members were stung.
“Despite the stings, all personnel are reported to be OK,” according to a Facebook post.
The patient was in an area of the park that could not be accessed by the corps’ utility terrain vehicle, so the crew drove it as far as they could, then carried the patient to the vehicle in a stretcher.
“The patient was successfully removed from the woods and transported to the hospital for further treatment,” according to the Storms.
The main entrance to the park is off Chatfield Street across from the entrance to the Derby High School/Middle School campus.
