ANSONIA – The city is hiring for a new library director, following the retirement of Jennifer Lester on July 29.
A job posting, which was open from July 25 through Aug. 8, lists the salary at $72,490.34.
Lester worked at the Ansonia Library for 25 years, first being hired to a full-time position in 2000. She was appointed director in 2017, after the resignation of Mary Ann Capone.
During Lester’s time as director, the Ansonia Library added a Teen Room in 2023 and began a partnership with the Traveling Toys nonprofit.
Ongoing projects at the library include repairs on the clock tower and attempts to secure funding to turn a donated Winnebago into a mobile “Bookmobile.”
Shelley Sheridan, the chair of the library’s board of directors, thanked Lester for her work in an emailed statement to The Valley Indy.
“We thank Ms. Lester for her years of service to the library,” Sheridan wrote. “We are now looking ahead to new leadership and opportunities to better serve our community. We wish her well in her retirement.”
Mayor David Cassetti said he wishes Lester well.
“I’m grateful for her many years of dedicated service, and I wish her and her family well,” Cassetti said.
The Valley Indy attempted to reach Lester by phone for comment but was unable.
