ANSONIA – Police are trying to figure out who slashed two of Mayor David Cassetti’s tires outside his house earlier this month.
Ansonia Police Lt. Patrick Lynch said that the department is investigating the incident, which occurred at Cassetti’s home on High Acres Road between Aug. 8 and Aug. 9.
Cassetti told The Valley Indy that he came home on Aug. 8 around 9:30 p.m. from a meeting in Naugatuck with the Naugatuck Valley Council of Governments and went to sleep. When he woke up and got to his car, a 2023 Dodge Durango, he noticed that a tire was flat.
“I had Frank’s tow company come out and change it right there in my driveway,” Cassetti said. “And then about three hours later, the other one was flat, so I know that they sliced both of them.”
He said he was able to get two replacement tires from Isaac’s for about $320 on Aug. 11. The city covered the cost, he said, since it’s a city-owned vehicle.
Cassetti said he had a camera set up in his driveway, but that the car was parked too far away to tell who could have slashed the tires. He said he thinks the slashing happened between around 9:30 p.m. and 2:30 a.m.
“It’s terrible. I don’t know who could possibly have done it. I don’t know,” Cassetti said.
Cassetti said he didn’t know why someone would slash his tires, but that he suspected it was political.
“I don’t know why. Being in the position I am, and it being an election year, you get people who hate you,” Cassetti said.
Lynch’s statement to The Valley Indy did not include any potential motives.
