SHELTON — Mayor Mark A. Lauretti commemorated the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence by presenting the America 250! Proclamation to Ripton Parish Chapter Regent Patricia King on Wednesday, July 1 at Shelton City Hall. He took the opportunity to reflect on our nation’s past and honored the contributions of all Americans. He looks forward to future generations who will carry forward the ideals of democracy and individual liberty which make our nation unique.
Regent King remembered the men and women of Ripton Parish who embraced the fight for independence by joining the local militia, enlisting in the Continental Army, boycotting British goods, donating money, food and clothing to the army during the Revolutionary War.
