
DERBY — A 33-year-old Ansonia man was charged with drunk driving after crashing into a parked car on Hawthorne Avenue Thursday night (Aug. 21).
Police were deluged with 911 calls at 10:27 p.m. reporting the crash.
According to police, Ryan Turner was driving on Hawthorne Avenue when he crossed into the oncoming lane and struck a car parked in a driveway at 226 Hawthorne Ave. Neighbors reported hearing what sounded like a speeding car and then a loud bang. Yelling could be heard immediately after the crash.
Police said Turner failed field sobriety tests and was charged with DUI, driving in the improper lane, and second-degree threatening. He was being held on a $5,000 bond. The threatening charge was lodged because police said he was threatening officers during the booking process.
