This car on Anson Street was hit with gunfire.

DERBY — No injuries have been reported after someone opened fire on Anson Street Friday afternoon (Aug. 22).

DoingItLocal first reported the shooting in a Facebook post at 1:10 p.m. Derby police later issued a statement saying they received a report at 12:51 p.m.

Derby police were getting ready to clear the scene at 2:22 p.m.

A neighbor said he heard four to five gunshots. A second neighbor declined to comment.

Police concentrated on an older blue Honda Civic parked in the area of 51 Anson St. that was hit by gunfire. A hole could be seen in the driver’s side window and a second hole could be seen in the windshield.

Police appeared to use pliers to pull an object out of the door and place it into a small manilla envelope. An officer advised the owner to shut his car door slowly to prevent the glass from completely falling out. Police also photographed the inside of a garbage can near the Derby Mini Market.

Anson Street is heavily residential. There were many kids on the sidewalk and riding scooters about 30 minutes after the shots fired report. A woman remarked she had just been outside before the gunfire happened.

Police could also be seen looking for damage to exterior walls of apartment buildings on Anson Street. An officer was also going into yards inspecting properties on Hawkins Street.

“The Derby Police Department is seeking information and video related to this incident and asks that individuals contact Detective Sgt. Daniel Donston at 203-735-7811 x322. Reports can be made anonymously,” police said in a Facebook post, which is embedded below.
