
UPDATE: Police said on Aug. 28 that they had made an additional arrest, of a 15-year-old juvenile suspected of participating in the robbery. Police charged the juvenile with second-degree larceny, first-degree robbery, first-degree conspiracy to commit robbery, criminal misuse of a weapon, and carrying a pistol without a hearing. The juvenile was brought to the juvenile detention center pending a hearing, according to police. Original story from Aug. 27 follows.
ANSONIA – Police are still looking for one more suspect in connection to a North End bike robbery.
Police said in a press release that they arrested three people on Aug. 26 after locating one of the suspected thieves inside a car – along with two other people, drugs, and a loaded gun.
The suspected robber, a 17-year-old, was arrested and charged with second-degree larceny, carrying a pistol permit, first-degree conspiracy to commit robbery, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, and first-degree conspiracy to commit robbery, police said. Their name was not released due to their age.
Police also arrested Sheldon Haley, 45, and Kylen Sanders, 31. Haley was charged with possession of a controlled substance; Sanders was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance, possession of narcotics with intent to sell, tampering with evidence, failure to be fingerprinted, and interfering with a police officer.
Police are still searching for one other person they said is connected to the robbery. Additional details, such as name, age, or gender of the suspect were not released.
According to police, officers responded to a reported armed robbery on Aug. 26. A juvenile victim told police he had been robbed of his bike by someone who displayed a firearm, police said.
After the report, police said they saw one of the suspects driving the bike before ditching it on Sunset Drive. The bike was recovered from that location.
Officers and detectives conducted surveillance in the area, police said, and saw a vehicle they believed contained one of the suspects. Police conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle, leading to the arrests.
Police said Haley and Sanders were in the vehicle along with the 17-year-old suspect. Police said they noticed narcotics in the vehicle during the traffic stop and arrested all three occupants.
The juvenile suspected was detained and transported to the Juvenile Detention Center in Bridgeport, police said.
While in custody, one of the suspects allegedly attempted to conceal narcotics from police, but failed. After the arrests, police said that Sanders refused to be processed or fingerprinted.
Haley was released on a $5,000 bond, according to police.
Sanders was held on a $50,000 bond and arraigned in Derby Aug. 27.
