BEACON FALLS – The Naugatuck Valley Council of Governments will host a hazardous waste and paint collection event from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Sept. 27 at the Beacon Falls Recreation Complex (100 Pent Rd).

The following information is copied from the NVCOG website:

The Naugatuck Valley Council of Governments (NVCOG) administers a 15-town Household Hazardous Waste collection region for residents of Ansonia, Beacon Falls, Bethlehem, Derby, Middlebury, Naugatuck, Oxford, Prospect, Seymour, Southbury, Thomaston, Waterbury, Watertown, Wolcott, and Woodbury.

HHW events give residents the opportunity to properly dispose of hazardous materials that are commonly used in the home including paint, pesticides, household cleaners, poisons, and chemicals. The goal of the program is to keep potentially hazardous waste out of local landfills and sewers, providing extra protection for wetlands and waterways. Three hazardous waste disposal days are held annually. Events are held rain or shine.

– Free of charge to residents.

– Proof of residency (such as a driver’s license, tax bill, or other identification) is required for entrance.

– Please stay in your car at all times. Trained waste handlers will remove materials from the cars.

There is a cap of 50 lbs. of waste per resident unless arrangements are made in advance. If you think you might exceed this limit, send an email with your name, address, and type of waste to hhw@nvcogct.gov by Monday before the collection date.
