The following post was sent by Ansonia Fire Department Chief Jay Fainer:

Good Evening,

The Ansonia Fire Department recently responded to a call on Main Street for smoke in a building. The first-arriving fire engine attempted to access the closest hydrant, located directly in front of the Post Office. Unfortunately, that hydrant was blocked by a customer who had “just run into” the building.

Fortunately, the incident turned out to be only burnt toast. However, when lives are on the line and seconds truly count, a parked car in front of a hydrant can create a serious and dangerous delay.

To help prevent this in the future, I have asked Chief Williams and Public Works to paint the curb in front of this hydrant as a clear reminder that this spot is not for parking—it is for Fire Department use only.

Thank you for your cooperation in helping keep our community safe.

Respectfully,
Jay Fainer
Chief, Ansonia Fire Department
