DERBY — A high school student was approached by a man who talked to a student and behaved inappropriately, according to a message sent from Derby High School Principal Jennifer Olson.
Police have been notified. Anyone with information should call police at 203 734 1651.
The incident happened Thursday (Oct. 9) at about 2:45 p.m. while the student, a male, was near the gate that leads to the school’s athletic facility next to Derby Neck Library.
A man on the running track approached the student.
“The individual attempted to engage the student in conversation and behaved inappropriately. The student did the right thing by walking away and reporting it to a trusted adult,” according to Olson’s Oct. 10 message.
Police were called, and additional security was at the athletic fields Friday (Oct. 10), officials said.
Additional details were not available.
“We encourage families to remind students to report any suspicious or inappropriate behavior immediately to a trusted adult, school staff member, or police,” according to Olson.
