Elizabeth M. Charney, 98, peacefully entered into eternal rest on October 22, 2025, joining her beloved husband of 53 years, George E. Charney, who predeceased her. She was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, where she spent her early years, later settling in Shelton, CT to raise her family. In retirement, she enjoyed the warm sunshine of Sun City Center, Florida, before returning to Hamden, CT to spend her final years surrounded by loved ones.
A devoted mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, Betty was born legally blind but still found joy in cooking, knitting, listening to music and celebrating holidays—especially Christmas—and caring for her family. She worked at McKesson prior to raising her children and then for many years as an Avon representative, where she made lasting friendships and brought warmth to everyone she met.
She was predeceased by her brother, Joseph Bodnar, and her sister, Mary Angela Bodnar. She is survived by her brother, Bertram Bodnar; her five beloved children—Andrew Charney and his partner Nancy, Elizabeth Morasse and her husband Robert, Sherri DeFelice and her husband Fred, George Charney and his wife Donna, and April Riordan and her husband Dave. She will also be deeply missed by her six grandchildren—Jonathan Morasse and his wife Leah, Peter Charney, Alexa Charney, Olivia DeFelice, Evan Charney, and Cayla Riordan—as well as many nieces and nephews.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, November 29th, at 10:00 AM at Christ the King Church in Trumbull. All other services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lions Club of Fairfield, 441 Post Road, Fairfield, CT 06824.
