Gary L. Oppel, age 64, of Monroe, entered into rest on Sunday, November 30, 2025 at his home with his loving family by his side.
He was the devoted husband of 14 years to Monique (Genest) Oppel. Gary was born in Bridgeport on February 10, 1961, son of the late Clarence Oppel, Jr. and Priscilla (Barmmer) Oppel Kunesch.
He proudly served with the US Navy. Gary was a molding technician for many years until his retirement. He was an accomplished composer and musician. Gary also enjoyed model trains, gardening and reading. Most of all, he cherished spending time with his family.
Gary was the beloved father of Jacob Peck and his wife Megan, Heather DeSimone and her wife Olimpia, step-father of Julianna Zhou-Dominguez and her husband Cesar and Aleena Speranza and her husband (Mark), brother of Win Oppel and his wife Patty, Ray Oppel and his wife Debbie, Marie Corriveau, Arthur Oppel and Clinton Oppel and step-son of Fred Kunesch. He was the loving grandfather of Evelyn, Catalina Celine and Matteo John and was also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Wednesday from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Rd., Shelton. On Thursday, everyone is invited to go directly to Huntington Congregational Church, 19 Church St., Shelton, for his Funeral Service at 11:00 AM, which will be followed by Full Military Honors.
The family requests that memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, www.cancer.org, or plant a tree in Gary’s memory.
