Augusto C. Fernandes, age 86, entered eternal rest on January 5, 2026, at Griffin Hospital in Derby. He was the beloved husband of fifty-four years to Aida (Cardoso) Fernandes.

Born in Cernache, Portugal on March 21, 1939, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Isaura (Correia) Fernandes. At age 29, he came to the United States and settled in New Bedford, Massachusetts. Last year, Augusto along with his wife Aida relocated to Seymour, CT to be near his loving daughter and beautiful granddaughters. He was a self-employed painting contractor for Fernandes and Miranda Painting for many years until his retirement. Gus was a soccer fan and a proud member of the Portuguese-American Soccer Club, Casa Benfica, in New Bedford, MA. He had a true passion for vegetable gardening and enjoyed growing his bounty. Above all else, Gus valued his family and loved spending quality time making memories with them, especially his two cherished granddaughters. Gus was an avid fan of all Boston teams, Red Sox, Celtics, Bruins, and Patriots. He will lovingly be missed by all.

In addition to his wife Aida, Augusto leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter Jacqueline Fernandes of Seymour, granddaughters, Myah LaRovera and Jacey Sullivan both of Seymour and his brother Abilio Fernandes (Candida) of New Bedford, MA along with several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Antonio and Joaquim Fernandes.
