DERBY – Police charged two men who they said attempted to fraudulently open a bank account at Liberty Bank on Pershing Drive on Feb. 27.
David Yorwerth, 60, and Taylor Greene, 28, were charged with first-degree forgery, third-degree identity theft, conspiracy to commit forgery, conspiracy to commit identity theft, and conspiracy to commit criminal impersonation.
Yorwerth was additionally charged with criminal impersonation and interfering with an officer.
In social media post, police said Yorwerth entered the bank on Pershing Drive and attempted to open an account. However, an employee recognized him from a suspected prior attempt to open a fraudulent account at a bank branch in North Haven.
Officers responded and detained Yorwerth, where they allegedly found forged and fraudulent ID documents on him.
Police said they identified Greene as a suspect after reviewing surveillance footage and electronic evidence.
The status of their cases was not available on the state judicial website as of Tuesday morning (March 3).
