ANSONIA — Three people escaped a burning house Wednesday on Beverly Drive unharmed, a firefighter said.
The house was uninhabitable due to the fire so the Connecticut Red Cross was contacted, Ansonia Fire Department Deputy Chief Anthony DeLucia said.
The fire marshal’s office is investigating the cause and origin.
DeLucia said the fire was reported July 22 at about 12:40 p.m. at 20 Beverly Drive.
“Units showed up and we had smoke coming from all four sides,” DeLucia said.
Firefighters stretched a hose into the house through the front door and used a ladder to get into the attic, where most of the smoke and fire were concentrated.
There was fire damage to at least half the attic, DeLucia said.
Firefighters cut a hole measuring roughly 15 feet long and four feet wide for ventilation.
The vinyl siding on the side of the house melted from the heat, and some utility wires going into the house from the street appeared damaged, too.
Fire crews from Derby and Seymour were also on scene.
Tax records show the ranch-style house was built in 1958 and has about 1,200 square feet of living space.
