DERBY — A 17-year-old person was charged April 17 with illegal possession of a machine gun and illegal possession of an extended magazine, according to a Facebook post from the Derby Police Department.
According to the post, the SWAT team from the Hamden Police Department served a search warrant at a multi-family residence on Water Street at about 6 p.m. April 17.
The warrant is part of an investigation into a firearms incident in Hamden, according to the Derby PD post.
“During the operation, a 17-year-old resident was found to be in possession of a firearm equipped with an extended magazine and a conversion device commonly referred to as a “switch,” which enables a firearm to discharge in a fully automatic manner,” according to the post.
The suspect’s name was not released by police, presumably because of the person’s age.
