ANSONIA – There were no injuries reported after a kitchen fire on Jewett Street Tuesday (April 21). The fire marshal’s office is investigating the cause of the blaze.

Ansonia firefighters received a call around 9 p.m. reporting a kitchen fire on the second floor of 127-129 Jewett St. Between three and six people left the home by the time firefighters arrived, according to Ansonia Fire Department Assistant Chief Anthony DeLucia.

“When we got here, the building was being evacuated. I went up the stairs, found the kitchen fire. We had two guys come up with our handline and then they knocked it down real quick,” DeLucia said.

DeLucia said firefighters kept the fire within the kitchen. Damage was limited to burned cabinets and a stove.

It was not apparent whether residents would be allowed back in the home as of around 9:40 p.m.

Crews from Derby also responded, while Seymour firefighters provided station coverage.

The house at 127-129 Jewett St. is a 1,520-square foot, two-family wood-frame home, according to Ansonia land records. It was built in 1920.
