SEYMOUR – The Valley Independent Sentinel won four awards from the Connecticut Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists for stories published in 2025, SPJ officials announced Tuesday (May 5).

The Valley Indy has now won 54 CT SPJ awards since launching in 2009.

The latest awards are as follows:

The New Haven Independent — The Valley’s sister site — won 13 awards in the CT SPJ contest.

In 2017 the publication was received the Silver Medal Award from the Greater Valley Chamber of Commerce.

In 2024 it received the Stephen A. Collins Memorial Award from The Connecticut Council of Freedom Information (CCFOI) for its ​“pursuit of open and accountable government in the highest tradition of a free and vigorous press.”
