Memorial Day is Monday, May 25. Here are some upcoming parades and events to mark the holiday.

ANSONIA

The city’s Memorial Day Parade is now scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, May 31, according to a Facebook post from the city at 8:14 p.m. Thursday (May 21).

The parade was initially scheduled for Sunday, May 24, but was canceled due to weather forecasts. The city then changed the cancelation to a reschedule.

DERBY-SHELTON

Annual Ceremony:

An annual ceremony is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday, May 22 at Derby High School to read the names of military veterans from Derby and Shelton who have passed away since last Memorial Day.

Derby-Shelton Parade:

The annual Derby-Shelton Parade is scheduled to start in Shelton at 9 a.m. Monday, May 25. It will happen rain or shine.

It starts at Howe Avenue and Kneen Street. 

The parade will go from Kneen Street to Coram Avenue to White Street to Howe Avenue. It will proceed over the Derby-Shelton Bridge into Derby.

In Derby, the parade takes Main Street to get the Elizabeth Street to Cottage Street, where the parade ends.

SEYMOUR

The annual Seymour Memorial Day Parade will step off at 11 a.m. Saturday (May 23) on Derby Avenue near the intersection at Pine Street.

The line of march will continue onto Broad Street, proceed north along Main Street and conclude at the intersection of Main and Bank streets.

This year’s parade Grand Marshal is George J. Bashura Jr., a lifelong Seymour resident and U.S. Army veteran. Bashura is a 1966 graduate of Seymour High School and former Color Guard Captain. He went on to a 47-year career at Sikorsky Aircraft. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1967, serving more than two years in Germany during the Vietnam War, and continued in the Army Reserves until his honorable discharge as a Staff Sergeant in 1978.

The Seymour Memorial Day Parade will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2026. The parade begins at 11:00 AM and is expected to last approximately one hour.

Please be advised of the following road closures:

Derby Avenue will close at 9:30 AM.

Derby Avenue and River Street will close at 9:30 AM.

Broad Street and Main Street will close at 10:30 AM.
