Robert H. Dully, 89, of Shelton CT, passed away on June 7, 2026 surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Hartford on July 18, 1936, Robert was the youngest child of the late Frank E. and Monica (Cooney) Dully. He was the devoted husband of 66 years to Mary “Sally” (Murray) Dully who lovingly cared for him up to the time of his passing. Bob grew up in West Hartford and later raised his six children in their family home in the Huntington section of Shelton, where he resided for 61 years.
Bob was a proud graduate of The College of the Holy Cross Class of 1958 and remained actively involved with his alma mater throughout his life. He was a member of the President’s Council, served as past president of the Fairfield County Holy Cross Club, and was a member of the Board of Directors of the Holy Cross Alumni Association. As a true believer of the importance of a Jesuit education, he was also an active supporter of Fairfield College Preparatory School.
Bob dedicated 37 years to Travelers Insurance Company, where he rose to the position of Regional Sales Executive for Fairfield County. Throughout his career, he earned numerous accolades as a top sales leader and was respected for his professionalism and commitment to excellence. He managed the Westport office before later transferring to Hamden. Additionally, he was a member of the National Association of Security Dealers.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, he treasured time spent with family at his summer cottage in Old Saybrook, CT. Bob’s greatest pleasures were playing golf at Fenwick Golf Course where he was a lifetime member, driving his convertible, enjoying family gatherings at “the Beach” with his children and grandchildren, and most of all spending time with his wife Sally.
Bob was the beloved father of Robert M. (Kathleen) Dully, Elaine (Mark) Nelson, William H. Dully, Diane (William) Schofield, Frank E. (Jennifer) Dully II, and Maureen (Glenn) Proffitt. He was the loving grandfather of Sarah (DJ) Dully Zabkar, Robert S. (Emily) Dully, Colleen Nelson, Kevin R. (Kate) Nelson, Cate (Danny) Schofield Owens, Emily Schofield, Matthew R. (Amelia) Schofield, Megan Dully, Sean P. Dully, Jack R. Walsh, and Kelly Walsh. He was also the proud great-grandfather of Parker Dully, Colette, Cecilia and Carlo Nelson, Cooper and Charles Owens.
He was predeceased by his siblings Dr. Frank E. Dully Jr, Ann Luby, Jean Kramer and Joan Graff. In addition to his wife and family, Bob is survived by several beloved nieces and nephews.
Bob will be remembered for his steadfast Catholic faith, devotion to the Blessed Mother, and unwavering commitment to his family. He lived a life rooted in love, kindness, and service to others. His wisdom, warm smile, and optimistic spirit will be dearly missed. Affectionately known as “Papa,” he was the heart of our family—our greatest champion and most loyal supporter. He had a gift of making each of us feel special, confident and valued, knowing he was always in our corner.
As he now watches from above with his sparkling blue eyes, each one of us can still hear him saying “Always remember… Head down, slow on the backswing”.
Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, June 12, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Lawrence Church, 505 Shelton Ave., Shelton. Burial will be private and take place at a later date.
