DERBY — The middle school and the high school went into lockdown and then shelter in place mode Monday afternoon (June 15) because of a threatening message written on a bathroom wall at Derby Middle School.

Police determined the threat was not credible.

Students were kept in place as officers investigated.

The middle school and the high school are across the street from each other off Chatfield Street.

An email was sent by middle school officials at 1:50 p.m. letting parents know what was happening. The high school also sent home messages via email and robocalls.

The lockdown delayed the afternoon buses, as the high school was set to dismiss at 1:55 p.m. Buses from the high school were delayed about 30 minutes, which created delays for the middle and elementary schools.
