Top Ten students!
The Emmett O’Brien Class of 2026 graduated June 25. Below are bios of the Top 10 students, submitted by school officials.
Madelyn Elizabeth Kellogg – Health Technologies
Madelyn, valedictorian, is the daughter of Melissa and Dameon Kellogg of Shelton. She has a 103.7 GPA.
Madelyn is a remarkably gifted scholar whose work ethic earned her top marks across all subjects. Admirable and well-rounded, she shines equally in her trade pursuits and leadership roles. She is the Class of 2026 Co-Secretary, Student Council Secretary, and National Honor Society Vice President. Madelyn is a Certified Phlebotomy Technician, Electrocardiogram Technician, Clinical Medical Assistant, and Certified Nurse’s Aide. She also volunteered at Griffin Hospital as an Ambassador for two years.
Madelyn will attend the University of Connecticut (Storrs) in the fall and major in Nursing.
Abigail Rogucki – Precision Machining Technology
Abigail, salutatorian, is the daughter of Nicole Cybart-Rogucki and Michael Rogucki of Derby. She has a 103.3 GPA.
Abigail is a bright young woman and an incredible student leader whose exceptional dedication and consistent work ethic earned her the position of Class President. She is an active member in many extracurricular activities at Emmett, including SkillsUSA, where she serves as Vice President and has been a state officer for the past two years. She is also the National Honor Society President for both her school and the state of Connecticut, as well as a co-host for Emmett’s morning announcements.
Abigail will attend the University of Connecticut (Storrs) in the fall and major in Physiology and Neurobiology.
Evan James Beland – Precision Machining Technology
Evan is the son of Jennifer and Benjamin Beland of Beacon Falls. He has a 102.1 GPA.
Evan is a well-rounded student whose commitment to athletics, academics, and leadership is truly admirable. He is a four-year varsity soccer player and captain who achieved All-State First Team recognition, and is a CIAC Student Scholar Athlete. He is an active member of Student Council and the National Honor Society. He also participated in our Work Based Learning program at Sonics & Materials.
Evan plans to continue his apprenticeship as a machinist at Sonics & Materials.
Andrew Ezequiel Marques DeSousa – Electrical
Andrew is the son of Renata Dasilva and Geraldo DeSousa of Naugatuck. He has a 101.9 GPA.
Andrew is a remarkably smart young man who successfully balanced academics with varsity soccer. A top electrical student, Andrew secured an internship at Sikorsky during his junior year at Emmett O’Brien.
He plans to continue at Sikorsky upon graduation.
Cassidy Lombardo – Precision Machining Technology
Cassidy is the daughter of of Carla and Joe Lombardo of Derby. She has a 100.8 GPA.
A standout scholar and dedicated, hardworking leader, Cassidy is the Student Council President, the Vice President of the Class of 2026, the Secretary of the National Honor Society, and involved in Yearbook Club. Cassidy participated in our school’s Work Based Learning program, and spent 2 years working at Inline Plastics.
Cassidy will be attending Keene State College in the fall and major in Nursing.
William Robert Borowski – Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning
William is the son of Iwona and Robert Borowski of Derby. He has a 100.7 GPA.
William’s academic achievements reflect not only talent, but years of hard work and dedication. As a top HVAC student, William participated in our school’s Work Based Learning program, where he spent 2 years working at Encon Heating and Air Conditioning as an apprentice.
William plans to continue his apprenticeship at Encon Heating and Air Conditioning.
Ezra Segelman – Precision Machining Technology
Ezra is the son of Esther and Menachem Segelman of Beacon Falls. He has a 100.5 GPA.
Ezra is a dedicated student-athlete whose involvement in both academics and in his school set him apart. He is a four-year varsity soccer player and captain. He is an active member of the National Honor Society, and Treasurer of Student Council. He will graduate as an ECMC Scholar. He also participated in our Work Based Learning program at Carby Corporation.
Ezra will continue working for Carby Corporation upon graduation.
Gabrielle Berlin – Culinary Arts
Gabrielle is the daughter of Gracieuse Berlin of Bridgeport. She has a 99.5 GPA.
Gabrielle is a remarkably gifted scholar whose determination speaks volumes beyond the classroom. In Culinary Arts, she earned Food Handler, Restaurant Manager, and Food Allergen certifications, as well as winning Baker of the Year and Most Improved Chef. An active member of SkillsUSA, Gabrielle won 2nd place at SkillsUSA CT for restaurant service and placed 19th at nationals.
Gabriele will attend the University of Connecticut (Stamford) for Nutritional Science in the fall.
Vina Rosa Velez – Health Technologies
Vina is the daughter of Ivette Velazquez of Derby. She has a 97.8 GPA
Vina has distinguished herself thanks to her strong grades and clear focus on her future goals. She is the Class of 2026 Co-Secretary, an officer in Student Council, an active member of the National Honor Society, and a cheerleader for three years. She’s been a high honors student since freshman year, and is a Certified Phlebotomy Technician, Clinical Medical Assistant, and Certified Nurse’s Aide. She will also graduate with college credits through our dual-enrollment program.
Vina will be attending Southern Connecticut State University in the fall and major in Nursing.
Piper Jane Stark Nagurney – Information Technology
Piper Jane is the daughter of Amanda and Nicholas Nagurney of Naugatuck. She has a 97.2 GPA.
Piper is a passionate, top student who has earned many certifications in her trade while being active in her community. While she attended Emmett, she was involved with the marching band and color guard for Naugatuck High School. She is incredibly excited to take this next step in her academic journey and see where her passions take her.
Piper Jane will attend CT State Community College in the fall and major in Media Production.
