Nix the Knotweed
Saturday, July 11
9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
Join Ranger Maria and the Conservation Corps as we continue our long-term effort to manage invasive Japanese Knotweed on the Nature Center property using non-chemical methods. Volunteers will help cut and remove knotweed from sensitive habitat areas to encourage native plants to return. Bring a refillable water bottle, sunscreen, bug spray, and a snack.
Web of Life: Forest Connections

2:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Join Ranger Dawn for an exploration of the hidden connections that make a forest ecosystem thrive. Learn how trees, insects, fungi, birds, and mammals all depend on one another through an intricate web of relationships. Participants will take a short walk into the forest and participate in a fun interactive activity demonstrating how every living thing plays a role in maintaining balance within an ecosystem. Free for ages 8 through adult! Registration required
Pigeons Through the Ages

Learn about the fascinating lives of pigeons and their long history with humans, and meet Chuckles, our resident ringnecked dove! From the pigeon towers of Ancient Egypt to the trenches of World War I to the streets of our modern cities, take a whirlwind tour through history as seen through the eyes of the humble pigeon. Join Ranger Evelyn and Chuckles, our resident ring-necked dove, for this fascinating, family-friendly program. FREE! For ages eight and up. Registration required.
Firefly Hike

8:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Join Ranger Jeremy for an evening walk around Redwing Pond and into the upper fields as we search for fireflies, glowworms, and other bioluminescent wonders of the summer night. Learn about the life cycle and behavior of these fascinating insects while enjoying the beauty of the Nature Center after dark. Wear appropriate footwear and bring a flashlight. $3 per participant ages 4 and older.
Collecting the Rainbow of Nature

10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
Join Ranger Dawn for a colorful nature walk exploring the incredible variety of colors found in the natural world. Participants will search for flowers, leaves, fungi, insects, and other natural treasures representing every color of the rainbow while learning about camouflage, pollination, and seasonal changes in nature. A fun and creative outdoor adventure for all ages! FREE! Registration required.
