ANSONIA – Police are investigating after a man was shot around Liberty Street Tuesday afternoon (July 7).

The name and condition of the victim have not been released as of July 8.

According to a press release, hospital workers notified police around 5 p.m. July 7 that an adult man had admitted himself for a gunshot wound. Initial reports said the injury was possibly self-inflicted.

Officers and detectives learned that the incident took place around Liberty Street and responded to the area. After obtaining a search warrant, police searched a nearby home as part of the investigation.

The investigation is ongoing. The incident appears isolated and there is no immediate danger to the public, police said.
