DERBY — Police arrested a New Haven man on 17 drug, gun and motor vehicle charges July 5.
Anthony Stewart, 52, is charged with criminal possession of a firearm, theft of a firearm, carrying a weapon in a motor vehicle, carrying a pistol without a permit, two counts of possession with intent to sell, and sale of narcotics.
In addition to those seven felonies, he’s charged with five misdemeanors and five motor vehicle violations.According to a Derby police Facebook post, police “observed suspicious activity followed by multiple motor vehicle violations, including the misuse of a license plate.” The post wasn’t specific on the suspicious activity initially observed.
The incident happened at about 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Police said they pulled Stewart over, but he tried to run away on foot. He was quickly taken into custody, police said.
Police searched Stewart’s vehicle and said they found crack cocaine, heroin, and a stolen Glock pistol.
Stewart is being held on a $200,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court July 23. However, a separate entry on the state’s judicial website shows him released on a promise to appear in court July 23. Further court details weren’t available.
