Josip Stupic, age 84 of Seymour, beloved husband of the late Regina (Alvino) Stupic, entered peaceful rest on Saturday, August 1, 2026 in the Apple Rehab and Hewitt Health Center, Shelton. He was born on October 2, 1941, in Ozalj, Croatia (former Yugoslavia) to the late Josip and Ana (Sain) Stupic.
Josip immigrated to the United States in January 1961 with his brother Ivan where they joined their family in Indiana. Josip earned his PhD in Particle Physics from Indiana University Bloomington, where he was mentored by Professor Lawrence M. Langer. It was at Indiana University where he met his wife of 44 years, Regina Claire Alvino, a student of Anthropology.
Before settling in Seymour, Josip and his family lived in The Netherlands, Ohio, and New York. While in The Netherlands he taught Physics for two years at Catholic University Nijmegen. Upon return to the United States, he worked in Computer Programming until his retirement.
He loved gardening, found peace in the woods surrounding his home, and enjoyed tinkering with his cars. He especially cherished the long road trips between Connecticut and Indiana, where family and friends from the “old country” were gathered. A lifelong music lover, he appreciated every genre—from opera to rock-n-roll, to disco. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, generosity, and loyalty that was evident to all who knew him. Quiet and contemplative by nature, he was a man of unwavering integrity whose kindness, humility, and steadfast presence left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
In addition to his beloved wife, Regina, Josip was predeceased by his brother, Ivan. He is survived by his brother, Charlie Stupic (Sherrie) of Crown Point, Indiana; son, Joseph Stupic (Gaylene) of Edmond, Oklahoma; daughter, Karen Stupic (Brian Singer) of Saint Paul, Minnesota; and grandchildren, Blake Stupic, Grant Stupic, Evan Singer, and Cora Singer.
Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, August 11, 2026 at 10 am DIRECTLY in Mt. Meadows Cemetery, 117 Mountain Rd., Seymour, CT 06483. There will be no calling hours. The Ralph E.
