ANSONIA – No injuries were reported after a microwave caught fire in a Woodlawn Avenue apartment Aug. 9.
Firefighters were alerted around 2:35 p.m. Sunday, when an alarm went off at the Monsignor Hynes apartment complex at 70 Woodlawn Ave. When responders arrived, they saw smoke spreading through a hallway, according to a Facebook post from the department.
Members traced the smoke back to a microwave inside an apartment and found a fire had started inside the microwave. Using a water can, they put out the fire.
Firefighters wrapped up after using a fan to ventilate the hallways from the smoke.
The Monsignor Hynes and James J. O’Donnell apartment complexes on Woodlawn Avenue are managed by the Ansonia Housing Authority under the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
