ANSONIA – One person was taken to the hospital after their car struck a utility pole near the Ansonia Shopping Center on Main Street Wednesday (Aug. 26).
Details such as the victim’s age, sex and condition were not available as of Thursday morning.
Ansonia firefighters received a call around 10:39 p.m. reporting a possible motor vehicle accident with injuries. Upon arrival, responders saw a four-door Audi had crashed.
There was “heavy front-end damage to the car, and all of the airbags were deployed,” according to Ansonia Fire Department Chief Jay Fainer.
Firefighters and EMS responders were able to get the victim transported to the hospital. They did not need to use “jaws of life” or other extrication tools, according to Fainer. He said first responders were on the scene for about an hour.
Utility workers from United Illuminating (UI) also responded to repair the pole. There was a power outage along Main Street, between about Division Street and Father Salemi Drive, while they worked. Workers had completed the repairs by Thursday morning.
The fire department response included two engines and about ten responders. Assistant Chief Timothy Lembo led the response.
