SEYMOUR – Dr. Stephen Wagener To Give Free, In-Person Presentation, “The Dust Bowl” at the Seymour Public Library on Wednesday, September 16, 2026 at 6:30 P.M.
One of the most devastating environmental disasters in American History, the Dust Bowl refers to the dust storms that occurred during the 1930s to the drought stricken Southern & Central Great Plains regions of the US.
With the country already in a depression, Farmers who had invested all their resources in growing wheat, found they could not make a go of it.
Some moved to California with their families hoping to find work in agriculture there. Many were disappointed. This is their story, as told in song by Sis Cunningham and Woody Guthrie.
Dr. Stephen Wagener, Professor of Biology, has been teaching ecology and climate change courses, and related courses at Western Connecticut State University in Danbury since 1996.
