Schools Superintendent Stephen Tracy will present his 2010-2011 spending plan to the Board of Education at a meeting scheduled for Monday, Jan. 25 at Derby Middle School.

The meeting starts at 7 p.m.

Tracy and the school board set the date during Thursday’s school board meeting. The superintendent didn’t discuss details of the new budget, save for one sentence:

“We’re basically taking a freeze approach to the budget,” he said.

How tight are things in the school district?

An athletic fund from tickets sold at Derby sporting events is at $37,000, Tracy said. That fund was used this year to save some athletic programs that were cut during the last budget cycle.

As of Dec. 31, the school district had just $8,000 in the bank.

“Eight thousand dollars doesn’t give us any wiggle room,” school board member Kimberly Kreiger said.

The district is scheduled to deliver a budget to the city by March 1.
