ANSONIA – Police said they arrested an Ansonia man after he struck a police vehicle while under the influence, then fled the scene.

Angel Sosa, 44, was charged Feb. 14 with driving under the influence, evading responsibility in an accident, carrying a firearm under the influence, and failing to move over for a stopped emergency vehicle.

According to a press release, officers were on Elm Street around 9:50 p.m. investigating a separate, one-car accident.

While police investigated, Sosa’s vehicle allegedly approached, then struck an officer’s stopped vehicle while its emergency lights were flashing. He then drove off, police said.

Officers located Sosa’s vehicle on East Main Street and took him into custody there. While doing so, they allegedly found a loaded, 9-millimeter Sig Sauer handgun in the backseat of his car.

Police said they also found two loaded handgun magazines on Sosa. He refused to submit to DUI testing, according to the press release.

Sosa was released on a $7,500 bond. He is due to be arraigned Feb. 27 at Superior Court in Derby.
