SEYMOUR – The Town of Seymour proudly announces that its annual Memorial Day Parade will take place on Saturday, May 23, 2026, continuing a cherished tradition of honoring the brave men and women who served our country. The parade will step off at 11:00 AM on Derby Avenue near the intersection with Pine Street, continue onto Broad Street, proceed north along Main Street, and conclude at the intersection of Main Street and Bank Street.
The 2026 Grand Marshal is George J. Bashura Jr., a lifelong Seymour resident and proud
U.S. Army veteran. A 1966 graduate of Seymour High School and former Color Guard Captain, George went on to a 47-year career at Sikorsky Aircraft. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1967, serving more than two years in Germany during the Vietnam War, and continued in the Army Reserves until his honorable discharge as a Staff Sergeant in 1978. He remains an active member of Emil Senger American Legion Post 10, where he serves as Senior Vice Commander, and has been a dedicated member of the Seymour Congregational Church for over 30 years. George and his wife, Lynne, have been married for 45 years and continue to call Seymour home.
The parade will feature a wide range of participants, including a pre-parade invocation by
Jermaine Sheppherd, Campus Pastor at Vox Church Seymour as well as the Yankee Clipper & Magnificent Brass Band, Connecticut Hurricanes, CT Alumni Drum & Bugle Corps, Connecticut Patriots Fife & Drum Corps, Police Pipes & Drums of Waterbury, the Seymour Middle School Marching Band and Cheerleaders, local first responders and youth organizations such as Girl Scouts, Seymour Youth Football & Cheer, Seymour Soccer Association and George J. Hummel Little League to name a few.
An exciting new addition to this year’s parade will feature the Seymour Oxford Food Bank. Attendees are encouraged to bring non-perishable food donations; as part of an interactive element, food bank volunteers will push shopping carts along the parade route to collect contributions from spectators.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to line the parade route and join in this important day of remembrance and community pride.
