| Nov 6, 2024 5:19 pm |SEYMOUR – Most of the store owners in the flood-damaged Klarides Village Plaza said they hope to be back in business around Christmas.
Thirteen businesses in the shopping center on Route 67 have been closed since the freakish flash flood of Aug 18.
“We’re anxious for our tenants to reopen,” said state Rep. Nicole Klarides-Ditria, whose family owns the plaza through Klarides Family Associates. “These people are like our family and being out of business as long as they’ve been, and not making any money, it hurts us just as much as it hurts them. We can’t wait to see everyone open again.”

| Nov 1, 2024 9:55 pm |DERBY-OXFORD — Fire officials in the City of Derby and the Town of Oxford sent messages on Friday (Nov. 1) warning people about the severe fire threat throughout all of Connecticut.
No one should be using flames for anything outside due to the dry conditions that have already allowed brush fires to ignite all over the state. Some 50 brush fires have already been reported. In addition to no rain — and none is forecasted — gusty winds have made the situation even more dangerous.
The list of things not to do include the use of grills and fire pits. Do not burn branches or any type of yard debris.
“Please do your part in keeping the city safe from any fire dangers,” Derby Fire Marshal David J. Marcarelli said in a prepared statement.
