Ansonia Woman Faces Child Endangerment Charge

An Ansonia woman was arrested after police said she left her 2‑year-old son home alone.

Julie Sherman, 36, faces a charge of risk of injury to a minor in the case. The child had been spotted walking alone, police said.

In a prepared statement, Lt. Patrick Lynch said police were called about 10:40 a.m. about a child left alone.

An area resident reported that a small child was walking alone on Sixth Street and Hubbell Avenue and entered a residence on Hubbell Avenue,” Lynch said. Officers located a two-year-old child inside the residence alone.”

Police reached the boy’s mother on her cell phone, and she met officers at the police department.

At the station, the mother admitted to leaving the child home alone and she was placed under arrest,” Lynch said.

Sherman was released on a $5,000 bond and is due to appear at Superior Court in Derby Monday (March 26).

Sherman’s child was unharmed.

The state Department of Children and Families, who assisted in the investigation, was meeting with the child’s father Friday afternoon, Lynch said.
